INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS OF TEXAS ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FOUNDING MEMBERS

15 of 18 Senators and 61 of 66 Representatives now members

April 21, 2010

AUSTIN – Last week, hundreds of thousands of “Tea Party” activists gathered to protest the overreaching policies of the federal government. While those who want to take their country back gathered, the Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas (ICROT) were gathering commitments for the second round of founding members who pledged to fight for those same issues. The addition of these founding members is inclusive of those who were unable to be reached in time for the first announcement.

The Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas are proud to welcome Sen. John Carona (Dallas), Rep. Dwayne Bohac (Houston), Rep. Fred Brown (College Station), Rep. Angie Chen Button (Richardson), Rep. Byron Cook (Corsicana), Rep. Joe Driver (Garland), Rep. Mike Hamilton (Mauriceville), Rep. Patricia Harless (Spring), Rep. Harvey Hilderbran (Kerrville), Rep. Chuck Hopson (Jacksonville), Rep. Susan King (Abilene), Rep. Doug Miller (New Braunfels), Rep. Diane Patrick (Arlington), Rep. Todd Smith (Euless), Rep. Wayne Smith (Baytown), Rep. Diane Patrick (Amarillo), Rep. Burt Solomons (Carrollton), Rep. Vicki Truitt (Southlake) and Rep.-Elect Van Taylor (Plano).

We are also excited to welcome recent primary winners who have pledged to support ICROT’s five core principles upon their election to the Texas House. Those member nominees are: Cindy Burkett (Mesquite), Erwin Cain (Sulphur Springs), John Frullo (Lubbock), Dan Huberty (Atascocita), Lanham Lyne (Wichita Falls), Jim Murphy (Houston), Charles Perry (Lubbock), Connie Scott (Corpus Christi), Paul Workman (Spicewood) and Bill Zedler (Arlington).

“I am thrilled about how this movement and this group have taken off,” ICROT’s founding member Sen. Dan Patrick commented. “The group’s website has received over 75,000 hits in its first week, a vast majority of which are from right here in Texas. All of the comments have been very positive. Voters are excited about our contract and our core principles to put people before party,” Sen. Patrick concluded.

Comments on the group’s website have come from all parts of Texas and from every corner of the country. “The word of your group and its principles needs to get out to America, so Americans can unite with [these] common goals,” commented Steve E. of Mesa, Arizona. “For the first time in a very long time I actually believe someone can make a difference in helping the people get our country back. Thank you and those who stand with you,” said Bill M. of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. “I knew there were good people in government and have been waiting for them to come out,” concluded Ronald P. of Montgomery County, Texas. “I have been waiting for Republicans to make this move. This is the only way to go,” offered Carl T. of San Diego, California. “I am so glad you are doing this,” Paul F. of Plano, Texas added.

"Some have asked ‘who are invited’ to join our group," said Patrick. "Everyone was invited. I am not concerned how members voted in the past. I'm only interested in how they vote in the future, their commitment to our contract with Texas, and their pledge to put people before party," added Patrick. With this second round of announced founding members, the Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas have received pledges from 61 of the 66 returning Republican House members, 15 of the 18 Republican members of the Texas Senate and virtually all of the Republican primary winners who have competitive races this fall. All Senators and Representatives have now been contacted. The nine Republicans who have not yet joined have either declined membership or have been unreachable.

Additional information may be found on the group’s website at www.ICRepublicans.com.
